Photography: Telling and Understanding the Stories of Life

What is success?

Food, food, food!

Food is the material that contains or consists of essential body nutrients, such as carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, or minerals, and is ingested and assimilated by an organism to produce energy, stimulate growth, and maintain life. Food is very important to us because we need it to sustain life and if we don’t consume food we will starve and die.

We all love to eat food with the different aromas and mouth watering tastes and treats. Some of us even have our favorite food and this is a list of mine:

1. Pizza- I LOVE PIZZA-especially with the ones with many toppings like pepperoni, ham, meat, mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, olives and others. With all these ingredients, pizza is so delicious!

I first ate pizza when I was a kid and I liked eating it. I always wanted to try different flavors and recipes like Hawaiian or Pepperoni and they taste amazing!

2. Chop Suey- Chop Suey is a meat or fish stir-fried with vegetables (e.g., celery, onions, peppers or bean sprouts) seasoned with ginger and garlic and soy sauce; served with rice. I like eating chop suey because it is very healthy since it contains many vegetables, meat, and sometimes quail eggs. This mix of vegetables and meat gives the food amazing blending of tastes.

3. Rice- Rice is a staple food in the Philippines and we always eat it with different food or as we call it our "ulam" to go with rice. Rice can be cooked in different ways and the best method of cooking rice is by steaming it. If boiled in much water, it loses a portion of its already small percentage of nitrogenous elements. It requires much less time for cooking than any of the other grains. Like all the dried grains and seeds, rice swells in cooking to several times its original bulk.

We Filipinos also make "Sinangag" or fried rice. Philippine style fried rice is a simple dish of rice, meat/and or vegetables, a little oil, some spice and a garnish. Filipino fried rice or Sinangag is less seasoned than other versions of fried rice such as Chinese Fried rice, but the recipe utilizes the same techniques. One difference in the final outcome is colour — Filipino Fried Rice will usually be paler in color because there is no soy sauce in the cooking. This is an easy, delicious and versatile rice recipe than anyone can enjoy. It is also easily modified for vegetarians and vegans.

4. Pansit- a dish of noodles and shrimps, fish, meat, or vegetables, with many variations, e.g., molo (with pork-filled wontons and broth), Malabon (with shrimps, oysters, and squid), Canton (with egg noodles), bihon (with rice noodles), buko (with coconut strips instead of noodles). I love eating Pansit because it has a great taste. It has many ingredients like fish, meat and vegetables and we can also add the juice of calamansi to add flavor. Filipinos love to eat this dish especially on occasions like fiestas and birthdays.

There you go! These are some of my favorite foods. These are cuisine I crave for. Even if I eat a lot of food, I never forget to exercise and live a healthy lifestyle. And also remember to finish your food everytime you can and don't waste the food the Lord has given us.

Human Sexuality and Premarital Sex

I was absent last Saturday, September 18, 2010 when a seminar workshop was conducted. In this blog, I will talk about the topic of that seminar and it is about Human Sexuality and Effects of Premarital Sex. (I was given a brochure about the seminar.)
First Human Sexuality, many teenagers and people think that it is merely the act of having intercourse for pleasure. This is not the true meaning of Human Sexuality but it is the way boys act because they are male and the way girls act because they are females. Human Sexuality is how we express who we really are as human beings of different sexes.
The main topic of the seminar was Premarital sex. There are reason, excuses, and effects of premarital sex. The reasons why teenagers engage in premarital sex are:

1.       The need for INTIMACY-some teenagers need love because their parents have abused and rejected them. They receive intimacy usually from their boyfriend or girlfriend.

2.       Curiosity-this force makes teenagers experiment and experience something for pleasure. It should not be done by curiosity because there is always the right time for something.

3.       Rebellion-rebellious teens come from families who do not respect or love each other.

4.       As a way to cope with STRESS-teenagers do irresponsible behavior to cope up with stress but with harmful costs.
The reasons of having premarital sex are inappropriate because we can solve these problems in many ways. Also, having Premarital Sex have serious consequences like:
  • Decreases trust between couples.
  • Leads to more negative habits.
  • Tends to break up couples.
  • Increases the chances of associating sec with guilt, fear and shame.
  • Leads to comparison with former sex partners.
  • May fool a person into marrying the wrong person.
  • May lead to teenage pregnancy.
In addition, premarital sex could also shape our emotional health and social growth. In our emotional health, we could distrust other, difficulty maintaining a relationship and we could develop self-hatred or even jealousy. In our social growth, we would have a bad reputation.
These bad effects could be evaded by saying no to premarital sex, avoid bad influences from bad peers, and we should associate ourselves with friends who will support a healthy behavior and stick to our own decision to change. By saying no to premarital sex, we would develop maturity, self-confidence, self-esteem, integrity and pursue our life goals.
As young teenagers and children of God, we should learn how to control our very strong emotions. When we make decisions, we should think clearly and do the right thing and if we do the wrong thing, we should know our consequences. Rushing things leads to the damage of emotion and social life. We should not rush because there is always the right time to experience or do something. If we wait for our time to come to do or experience an act, we would be happy and be contented.

Can we handle it?

Can we handle the 10-point basic education agenda of President Aquino? The 10-point agenda is a list of 10 things the government can achieve for education over the next three to six years. I will now present my insights on this particular topic.

There is one goal of this agenda that I am interested in. It is the expansion of the current K-10 education(6 years in elementary and 4 years in high school) to a 12-year basic education cycle; adding 1 year to elementary and another year to high school.

The 12-year basic education curriculum has advantages and also some disadvantages.

First the advantages:

This curriculum will provide more time/years to study therefore students will acquire more knowledge and more experiences to learn from. This will help students harness their full potential and talents as they grow as a person. This will offer better basic education in preparation for tertiary or college education.
These are just some of the advantages that I can give and I believe that these will help a person learn effectively.

There are many contradictions and disagreements to this project and here are some:
There will be added burden to the parents of the students because they will earn more and spend more to support the needs of their children. Added to these expenses are the increasing tuition fees in the private schools. Also, the funding for this project is also crucial. This project will need money to implement but we should also consider other important issues for example the waste problem in our country. The government should also supply books, chairs, classrooms and other school supplies and facilities because there will be more students as they will add two more years of education. The Philippines also has a high rate of drop-outs so it will be hard to achieve or complete two more years of school.

I think that we are not yet ready to take this project into action. Considering the situation we are in right now, we should not yet implement the K-12 education plan. We should study this case further and think of ways to improve our present education curriculum.

I AM (CHRISTIAN)

Hello blogger.com and internet users! It is my first time to use a blog so I will introduce myself. I am Christian de Guzman. I was born on Dec 4, 1995 and at present 14 years old. I study in Saint Louis University Laboratory High School and currently a junior.

I am an energetic person. I prefer an active and healthy lifestyle to cope up with my daily activities. I also love to play sports especially basketball but I also involve myself in volleyball and jogging/running. I play basketball with my friends during my free time as a past time and an exercise.

As a basketball player, I can compare my life and my role to a point guard. When I put myself in situations where I need to make a decision, I carefully think and weigh my options. After I think, I put it into action and accomplish goals. If I make a bad decision, I learn from it and avoid making the same mistake. I also assist my friends, family or classmates whenever they are in need and hope to improve their situation in a way.

I love listening to music. It is also one of my pastimes. I love listening to rock, hip hop, acoustic, alternative and other genres. I listen to music because it makes me relax and concentrate. I also play the guitar and sometimes sing when no one is around because I am a little bit shy. I can also express myself or my feelings whether I feel sad, depressed, excited or happy.

I have a lot of friends and I have met most of them in school. I feel comfortable being around my friends because I know that they accept me for who I am. Though I have met a number of friends, I only consider few of them to be my real friends.

On my blog or website, expect to see my different views, opinions or comments about some major or minor topics like sports, music, games, government issues, environmental issues, and other subjects I am interested in. I want to use this blog to inform people on the different issues and see their reactions to these issues. Also, I want to enhance my communicating and socializing skills with friends, and other people on the internet and all over the world. I want to make new friends and share stories and insights with them. As you read my blogs, you will know more about me; about my life, friends, likes and dislike, family, and more information about me. Feel free to leave comments and follow my blog. Thank you for reading. :D
